When I was about 20 I apparently made a mixtape for someone, and semi-miraculously it still exists. The other miracle of interesting proportions is that it’s actually pretty damn good. Some of the selection is on the obvious side (Cecilia?), but hey…I was 20 and they are still good songs.

Side One-
Avalanche (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds)
Good Vibrations (Psychic TV)
I Am The Sun (Swans)
Love’s Secret Domain (Coil)
Marbles (Plone)
The Sadman (Slowdive)
You Think You’re a Man (The Vaselines)
D’s Winter Crazy Dub (Tortoise)
Tesla Girls (OMD)
Roman P. (Psychic TV)
Push (The Cure)
Plock (Plone)
Ages of You (REM)
Under Pressure (Bowie/Queen)

Side Two –
Tainted Love (Coil)
Candy Man (Monte Cazazza)
Wahre Arbeit, Wahrer Lohn (Die Krupps)
Identity (Swans)
Fearless (Pink Floyd)
Wax and Wane (Cocteau Twins)
Six Different Ways (The Cure)
Goodbye is Forever (Arcadia)
The Only Living Boy in New York (Simon and Garfunkel)
How to Bring a Blush to the Snow (Cocteau Twins)
Cecilia (Simon and Garfunkel)
There is a Mountain (Donovan)
Roadrunner (Jonathan Richman and His Modern Lovers)
Colours (Donovan)
Boogie Boogie (Mark Lanegan)

Yeah, that’s right. Little Baby Goth me slipped in some Simon and Garfunkel on side 2. Proof that underneath every black heart lies a soft folkie.

You can download the whole thing here, if you want to. (Image via.)

G, you’re a DJ after my own heart. Cocteau Twins, OMD and one of the best Bowie tunes ever? This is awesome!!! Thanks for sharing!

I was so excited to get a copy of this, it’s so cool to have a window to your past like that! I had completely forgotten about this tape but it made absolute sense that I put those songs on there. I remember this era very clearly.
