The Massimo Vignelli Saratoga, as obsessed over by me last night while watching John and Mary. Starring Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow (and the couch), and follows them after a one night stand as they try to discover if they actually like each other or not. In actuality I think it’s about Mia Farrow trying to weasel her way into immediately moving into Dustin’s massive New York City attic apartment with all his industrial lamps and slant roof windows and THAT COUCH. Underlying theme.

Today I will be heading upstairs at work to see Muji art director and design writer Kenya Hara speak. Lucky me, I love my job. But some days I extra extra love it here.

Pictured: Muji manufactured by Thonet. More here.

“The Rink”, Chicago.

The Rink opened at its original location at 8920 So. Ashland Ave., on Thanksgiving Day, 1975. The Rink spearheaded many major achievements. Most notably, The Rink was a sponsor of the first Afro-American roller-skating play, “Look Mama, No Hands,”, held at what was then Medinah Temple. Although The Rink featured two skating floors, it was too small to be competitive. It also had no off street parking. The Rink operated at the Ashland Avenue location until 1985, and afterwards was relocated to its’ current facility at 1122 East 87th. St. This location is twice as large, is fully air-conditioned, has two hardwood maple skating floors, and parking for over 500 cars. The roller skating scenes of the movie “Soul Food” was filmed here. In addition, it was the location of choice for casting calls for the movie Roll Bounce, a McDonalds Commercial, and several music videos.
